Multi-factor authentication through a two-step verification

With recent rises in tax-related identity theft and phishing attacks, we want you to know that we take your information security seriously. We have decided to add a multi-factor authentication (MFA) option through a two-step verification process for all our online products.

What is the two-step verification?

The two-step verification helps protect you by making it more difficult for someone else to sign in to your account. Most people only have one layer – their password – to protect their account. The two-step verification add a layer of protection more resilient than a password alone by sending users a one-time code that authenticates identity and the device from which they are logging in.

How does it work?

The two-step process is simple:

  1. Using the email address or phone number(s) on file, you will choose to receive a one-time passcode via email, Google authentication system, SMS text message or voice call (the methods offered will vary per product).
  2. You will be prompted to enter the correct one-time passcode in the application interface.

When will I have to follow this process?

  • Every time, if you do not select the Remember this device checkbox.
  • When logging in from a new device, or from a new Web browser on a registered/trusted device.
  • When logging in more than a specified number of days after their last verification (30, 60, 90, or 120 days, depending on the product).
